Women 60+ Are the Fastest Growing Segment of Vacation Home Hosts

Worldwide, in 2017, seniors earned over 2 billion dollars hosting on Airbnb alone. They’ve become an important force in the short term rental market that continues to expand at a much faster rate than any other demographic and women are the majority of Airbnb hosts.

EARNINGS IN RETIREMENT

With pensions becoming a thing of the past, seniors will continue to look for ways to supplement their retirement. In fact, 60% of senior Airbnb hosts said the platform has helped allow them to stay in their homes and 41% said the income generated helped them make ends meet.

The Host Company aims to further increase those earnings by allowing these hosts to sell items and services to their guests in their short term rental. There are over 400,000 senior hosts globally, many living in rural areas where jobs are scarce.

CONNECTIONS

85% of senior hosts get 5 star reviews on the platform, meaning they put a lot of effort into their guest’s happiness. Short term rentals make connections easy, both as a guest and a host. Seniors who are isolated are using this an opportunity to meet other travelers and form new bonds.

EMBRACING TECHNOLOGY

Seniors are rapidly embracing these technological advances that are creating opportunities to earn wealth. Short term rental platforms are one piece of that puzzle, but The Host Company is another new way to earn income from guests.

Selling items like shade hats, sunscreen and bottled water as well as services like grocery delivery are yet another revenue stream for any host that relies on short term rental income. We look forward to welcome senior hosts in 2021 and beyond!
