A clean house is everything to guests.

With the hectic schedule of running your rental property while managing all other realms of your life, deep cleaning may fall to the bottom of your to-do list. And, as business owners, we don’t always have the extra pocket money to spare on a cleaning service or blocking off the calendar to make room for an arduous deep clean.

However, (especially now), ensuring that your guests feel safe and clean in their environment is crucial, and consistent deep cleans are a big part of that!

  1. DEEP CLEANING SHOULD HAPPEN EVERY 1-3 MONTHS

We would advise sticking to the 3-month schedule. The best way to make sure it is consistent is to block out a day on your rental calendar (so you do not receive any bookings) to spend deep cleaning the space.

  2. BE DETAILED!

Deep cleaning means making sure you clean baseboards, magic erase all marks on the walls, check every lightbulb to ensure proper lighting, make sure the remote has fresh batteries, disinfect the inside of kitchen drawers (this means cleaning out crumbs!), and bleaching the grout in the shower.

  3. MAKE A LIST!

It helps to have a checklist you can refer back to every time that lets you know how often you need to flush the electric water heater or re-organize the stock closet. If you can stay in your Airbnb the night before, you’ll get a better sense of what needs to happen and what the cleaner hasn’t had time to keep up with.

  4. MAKE IT FUN!

Deep cleaning doesn’t have to be a drag in your calendar. If you can’t afford to hire a cleaner, ask your spouse, family member, or friend to help you, order pizza, and blast the tunes while you ensure a sparkling clean Airbnb space.

When in doubt, cleaning is one of the most important tasks to do when running your own Airbnb business. As we shared above, there are plenty of ways to make sure you remain consistent in your upkeep with your rental property and make it fun.
