Airbnb Hot Spots: New Orleans, LA

BY MIKEL HUBBARD

OWNER, TIMES EIGHT PROPERTY & DESIGN

Where history meets high design, only in an artistic enclave like New Orleans can you have the creativity of New York mixed with the architecture of San Francisco for a price that’s actually affordable. Artists and designers are doing some pretty interesting things in New Orleans, which sets it apart and makes it an Airbnb hotspot.

BYWATER BEAUTY

First off, the Bywater is one of our favorite neighborhoods in New Orleans. It’s close to the Marigny and French Quarter. It’s packed with adorable homes and high end restaurants and houses a creative class like no other. This Bywater cottage captures the spirit of a fresh, light and bright palette in a historical setting that would be an absolute joy to wake up in. When New Orleans starts to feel too gritty for you, you can come back and retreat to this pristine paradise.

SPACIOUS HISTORIC MARIGNY 3 BEDROOM HOUSE

For some straight up historical realness, we are gaga over this owner’s decision to embrace their home’s rustic brick, original dark wood and warm wood floors of their Marigny enclave. Steps from the French Quarter, the Marigny is often better nightlife than the Quarter itself. Choose to stay here and you’ll find furnishings that are on point, a kitchen that’s classic (you gotta see it) and a chance to feel like you’re stepping back in time with all the modernity of today. Yes, please.

ELEGANT FLAT IN LOWER HISTORIC GARDEN DISTRICT

This Garden District apartment has our jaw dropping. It’s sophisticated, original and feels luxury without being stuffy. Not sure who the interior designer is, but we want his or her number. We’re in love and planning our wedding in New Orleans. Not to our partner, to this house. We love it so much, we might have to marry it.

CREOLE COTTAGE JEWEL

Impressed, impressed, impressed is all we can say about this stunning Garden District abode. It feels modern and clean, but interesting and quirky at the same time. The design is top notch and the feel is so warm and welcoming. The real star here? The walls. From the shiplap in the bathroom to the wallpaper in the bedrooms, your eye wants to travel and travel and maybe possibly just move to New Orleans if you spend any amount of time in this home. By the way, if you do, invite us over for dinner. We’re dying to experience this place for ourselves.
