Our Favorite (Affordable) Sheets and Pillows for a Rental

Bedding is a constant question mark.  So simple and yet… so not at all. We see companies like Brooklinen and Parachute and think “Should I be spending big bucks on plush bedding?”  The answer, we believe, is a big no. Bedding gets ruined in a rental. All of it does. In our experience no sheet or pillowcase, no matter how expensive and durable, will last you an entire year of constant rental use. Eventually, it will get stained or torn and it will end up in the “out” pile. Rentals go through so many sheet sets and… we would rather toss out a $15 sheet than a $60 one.

SHEETS:

Our favorite sheet sets and pillowcases are the Ultra Soft Threshold Sheets from Target .

They feel luxurious, but they cost under $20.  Plus, they have helpful little tags that let you know whether each side of the fitted sheet goes on the top/bottom or side of the mattresses.  We recommend white because you can bleach it.  Ever seen colored or patterned sheets at a hotel?  Nope.  That’s why.  Theoretically, you can charge people for sheets if they ruin them, but have you ever had a hotel call you and tell you that you owe them $15 for a stained sheet?  Never.  Why?  Do you want to risk a good review having an argument with a guest over whether that was their bed stain or a previous guest’s stain you just missed?  Or a fight about what the stain could be?  Just let it go.  Unless it’s egregious, changing out your sheets should just be the cost of doing business.

PILLOWS/COMFORTERS:

For pillows and comforters, we tend to steer clear of down and stick with down alternative because you never know who’s gonna be allergic.  Again, here Target shines with their Fieldcrest down alternative pillows

DUVETS:

For duvets, if you can find a microfiber duvet, they come out wrinkle free and look stunning.

If you can’t, just make sure they have the ties on the inside so the cleaning person (or you) can turn a clean duvet inside out, tie the corners of the duvet to the comforter and flip it inside out.  Otherwise you’ll have to climb inside the duvet like an animal to get it to lay flat.

Do you have inexpensive bedding you swear by?  We’d love hear!  Overwhelm us with advice in the comments.  PLEASE!
